The Power Of Self Healing

We all go through ups and downs in life. It’s no secret that life is difficult. We all have different ways to cope with our struggles.

Recently, my teenage son has been going through a relationship that has left him feeling empty and questioning his self worth. While it absolutely breaks me to see my child suffer, it has opened my eyes to something. Every single one of us deserves to know what we deserve and who we are.

Most of us spend our time caring for others. This is of course an amazing quality to have however, if not reciprocated can leave us feeling very empty and broken.

The biggest lesson I hope to teach my son (and myself for that matter) is that we must love ourselves first before we can truly love someone else. We cannot continue pouring from an empty glass. This will only leave us empty and feeling worthless.

Learning To Love Ourselves

This sounds like such an easy concept.I should love myself just the way I would love someone else, but it’s not that simple. I feel like one of the things that holds us back from loving ourselves is the fear of being seen as selfish.

Have you ever been on a plane and heard the instructions for the oxygen masks? They tell you to put your own mask on before helping the person next to you. You can’t help someone else if you can’t breathe yourself right? Well that same concept applies to love. We cannot fill from an empty glass.

I am still working on this myself and I’m getting stronger everyday. It helps knowing that my son is watching and learning from me which provides me the motivation to get this right.

I recently read a book recommended to me on social media. “The Tears That Taught Me”. This book has quotes, poetry, and stories used as examples to how the author went on their journey of self love and discovery. The passages in this book are so powerful. Here is one of my favorite entries:

I recommend this book to anyone going on their journey to falling in love with themselves. It’s a long road, but so worth it!

I have included the link to order this book for yourself! Let me know what you think.
