Women and ADHD
According to studies, men are 113% more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than women. This is mainly because ADHD symptoms can manifest very differently in women. However, since the growing support and community on social media the number of women being diagnosed with ADHD nearly doubled from 2022 to 2024. This is definitely encouraging!
Misdiagnosed
Since symptoms in women with ADHD can manifest differently than the “usual ADHD” symptoms, women are often misdiagnosed. Some of the conditions confused with ADHD are:
- Bipolar disorder
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Borderline Personality Disorder
ADHD symptoms in women with ADHD
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Self Resentment
- Disorganization
- Unfinished Projects
- Low Self Confidence
- Emotional Dysregulation
I was diagnosed with ADHD in my late 20’s and suddenly a lightbulb went off! So many symptoms I have dealt with my entire life now make sense. The wonderful thing about being diagnosed is you can dive right into information to help you manage your symptoms.
Social media has been such a great support system and pool of knowledge! There is such a huge community of women dedicated to helping others learn about their diagnoses and share the tips and tricks that have helped them manage!
I was introduced to this book recently that refers to the “symptoms” of ADHD as “superpowers”. This has changed my entire outlook on my diagnoses.

I highly recommend ordering this book! If you prefer to read on your phone, tablet, or Kindle this book is included with a Kindle Unlimited subscription. I will attach a link for a free trial to Kindle Unlimited below because it is AMAZING!
This book is all about empowerment and discovering what are normally referred to as “ailments” can actually be used as “superpowers”.
10/10 recommend this book for any women dealing with a new or old diagnoses with ADHD!
