Foam rolling “Myo-fascial release” is a technique used to help with sore muscles, injuries, muscle strengthening, and stretching. There are different types of foam rollers. Some are more dense than others, some have different nodules on them that help massage certain trigger points, and some of them are different lengths and widths. To relax the overactive muscles, the roller puts pressure on them.

Benefits of Foam Rolling

  • Stress Relief
  • Injury prevention
  • Loosen tight sore muscles
  • Improves posture
  • Improves mobility at the joints
  • Improves circulation throughout your body
  • Feels amazing, like a self massage

When using self-myofascial techniques, there is a reflex in our body that causes our muscles to relax when they sense prolonged pressure on that muscle. When the stretch is held for at least 20 seconds, a tendon called the Golgi tendon to respond by replacing our bodies initial reaction to release the stretch when tension occurs. This results in tight muscle loosening, elongated posture, and best of all…..pain management!

I have become absolutely obsessed with foam rolling. It has become one of my routines to loosen my tight muscles after getting out of bed in the morning and also before going to bed at night. You can find many instructional videos on YouTube by just searching “self-Myofascial massage”
