Did you know that there is medical evidence that anxiety can be directly linked to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and other Autoimmune Disorders? I didn’t at first, but the more I read about it, the more it makes perfect sense.
What is Cortisol?
Cortisol is also known as the “stress hormone”.
What does Cortisol do?
The main function of cortisol is to help maintain your blood pressure, act as an anti-inflammatory to your body, and maintain your immune health.
When we are stressed, our bodies release an increased amount of cortisol. The cortisol is then used by our bodies to regulate our stress response. It also helps regulate our metabolism. Sounds amazing right? We all should want more cortisol!
That is not the case.
Prolonged Elevated Cortisone
Medical research has shown that when your body produces too much cortisol it can lead to serious medical conditions such as elevated blood pressure, diabetes, and immune suppression.
Long periods of elevated cortisone disrupt almost every process of our body.
To sum it all up, when we live in a constant state of “fight or flight” mode it becomes detrimental to our bodies over time.
The best way to help regulate our cortisol levels is to break that constant “fight or flight” state. Easier said than done right? I have not and probably will not ever master this. I have however found some things that I like to use to help bring me back down when I’m spiraling. Here are the things I have found that help me. I hope they help you find some peace and relaxation as well!
Fidget Rings
These rings are great when you just need to have your hands doing something! I love the simplicity of them. I just use my other finger and spin the spinner on the ring. They come in a variety of sizes and colors.

Hand Held Fidget Toy
I like this specific fidget toy because I feel like I can use this in public or at work without it looking like I am playing with a “toy”.

Cats Against Anxiety
This is an adorable box of affirmation cards that have pictures of cats on them as well! They have a Dog’s Against Anxiety too!

Adult Coloring Book Set
Coloring forces me to pay attention to what I am doing and helps quiet my mind! They have so many different styles of these but I like this one because it swears and has markers included.
