What is POTS

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (also known as POTS) is a condition that causes tachycardia and dysautonomia upon standing, sitting up, or just changing positions in general. This disease is found most commonly in women from ages 15-30.

Symptoms of POTS

  • Lightheadedness upon standing
  • Dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Heart palpitations
  • Increased anxiety

Symptoms can usually be relieved by laying down and adding extra salt to your diet. Staying hydrated is extremely important. My health care provider has also told me that regular water alone is not enough. People with POTS need to supplement hydration with Electrolytes. I will share my favorite Electrolyte drinks below!

Another thing that helps is keeping your head elevated when laying down, and compression stockings that go all the way up to your waist. Both of these things will help keep the blood from pooling to your lower extremities causing dizziness and dysautonomia.

My Go To Products!

Staying hydrated is extremely important. My favorite drink mix Liquid IV hands down! They have so many different flavor options including sugar free!

Compression stockings! These go all the way up to your waist which my Dr told me is much more effective than the shorter kind.

Pillow wedge to keep your head elevated.

Some form of a fitness tracker to keep track of your heart rate.

A blood pressure cuff to keep track of different trends in your blood pressure and pulse.

I hope you all find some of these products helpful in your POTS journey. I am always on the lookout for different products that help make this chronic illness more manageable!
