ADHD, depression, and anxiety all go hand in hand. Research has shown after so many years of high cortisol levels (caused by stress) your body gets stuck in “Fight or Flight” mode. Increased levels of cortisol can cause things such as chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety, adrenal issues, insomnia and autoimmune issues.
I have developed Chronic Fatigue syndrome and chronic pain. Some of the main areas I hold pain are in my neck, shoulders, upper back, and lower back/SI joint area (close to your hip joints). I have tried several different pain medications, topical pain lotions etc… My pain Dr. finally referred me to a physical therapist. Here is what I learned from this experience.
- When your body stays in a seated/still position for too long your muscles hold more tension resulting in more pain. Move those bodies!
- When the muscles around your SI joint such as glutes, and lower back muscles are weak they are unable to stabilize those joints. This puts more strain on the joints to support your body. Which causes what? You got it. More pain!! Exercise and stretching are essential to strengthen these muscles.
Learning this information prompted me to look up different stretch and strengthening tips. I have found some absolutely amazing back stretches that have made a WORLD of difference. You can find so many different stretch programs on social media. One of my absolute favorites is on YouTube, Yoga By Adriene back pain!
Also, have you heard of foam rolling? I hadn’t either and I sure wish someone would of told me about it sooner! Look up “foam rolling for myofascial release.” O.M.G. this is an ABSOLUSTE game changer! I’ve included a link below to the foam roller I purchased on Amazon!
The take away? Move your body, stay hydrated, stretch, and be good to yourself!
